I reversed diabetes in 2010; in agreement with my research and experience, I firmly believed there was a natural cure for Diabetes Type II. Now, 7 years later, I’d like to expand on this idea.

I’ll pose the question: Is there a natural cure for Diabetes Type II?

Yes. And no.

Diabetes Type II is a condition (not a disease) that exists within in a particular environment. When you change the environment, you change the condition. It is logical then, if you revert back to the old environment or a newly toxic one, the condition will reappear.

So yes, type 2 diabetes can be reversed naturally—100% holistically. There is no doubt about it. However, if your new lifestyle is not maintained, the condition is likely to return. There is nothing short-term that will “cure” (end a medical condition) diabetes.

Taking On a Natural Cure for Diabetes Type II is a Long-Term Game

Your Environment

There is no one-size-fits-all in health, nutrition, or illness. You will always find differing perspectives and such is a comment on life itself. Do your best to pick and choose wisely and always, always follow your intuition. Your intuition is your guide and compass that will lead you to what is most fruitful for your experience.

What kind of environment hosts a condition such as type 2 diabetes? This condition arises when resistance to the insulin that seeks to move sugar from your blood to your cells becomes grand. Your pancreas gets weak and worn down from continually pumping out more and more insulin as your blood sugar surges.

Your blood sugar surges (spikes) each time fast-converting-to-sugar carbohydrates are consumed. The carbs that convert quickly to sugar are basically your grain flours containing gluten (wheat, barley, rye), gluten-free starches and flours (corn, rice, potato, tapioca), and sugar (all forms, including most fruit). Also included are potatoes, winter squash, and grains (even quinoa which is technically a seed).

Consistently consuming these types of carbohydrates, combined with lack of physical movement, chronic stress-responses, and a cluster of conditions that suggest metabolic syndrome (a.k.a. syndrome X: increased belly fat, high fasting blood sugar, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and low HDL cholesterol), in some people, not all of the time but some of the time, will produce a type 2 diabetic condition.

Your heredity and family history of diabetes or pre-diabetes impacts your risk factors for this condition but does not solely determine it.

Your Lifestyle

What type of lifestyle or rather, lifestyle practices, can influence and change an internal environment that hosts Diabetes Type II or pre-diabetes? It’s not just about food. I’ll say it again—it’s not just about food. Nutrition is a biggie though and since you’re probably focused in that direction, let’s start with it.

Slow and steady blood sugar needs to be your center point. Don’t cut carbohydrates out of your meal plan; you need them just as you need the other macronutrients: fats and protein. However, cut way down on the fast-converting-to-sugar carbs I mentioned above. Load up on slow-converting carbs—veggies, leafy greens, non-sweet fruits, and berries.

Load up on whole, unprocessed proteins and healthy fats. Here is a short list that contains something for everyone, plant-based or animal-consuming: hemp seeds, chia seeds, organic grass-fed eggs and butter, nut butters (almond, cashew…), sprouts (mighty mighty), raw nuts and seeds, coconut oil, extra-virgin olive oil, wild salmon, avocado, and beans if you can digest them. Beans are starchy and tend to convert to sugar fairly quickly so know yourself; learn your body.

Hydrate with pure water, preferably 1/2 your body weight in ounces of clean water per day.

Move your body. Move. Your. Body. Work up to it and start slow: 50-minutes, 5 days a week. Walking hills is excellent. Find the joy and get creative; listen to music, podcasts, or digital books.

Practice stress-reduction daily: meditate, sing, dance, walk, rest, breathe deeply, play music or listen to it, cook, dive into your art, and affirm your gratitude.

Get support for your addictions; they must be tended to. It’s hard to eat clean, feel clean, and live clean when you are steeped in unconscious living, guided (misguided) by your addictions.

Express, create, and share. If you think this topic detours from exploring healthy living or the focus of this post—a natural cure for Diabetes Type II—you would be incorrect. The reason why you are here is to give and receive love. Following right behind is expressing, creating, and sharing your gifts—a.k.a. creative self-expression.

Every spirit has a calling. Every heart IS art. Whatever you love… discover it, identify it, and do it. Learn it, immerse yourself in it, and be it. This is a life well-lived. This is potential-realized. Think this doesn’t have anything to do with your health? Here’s a clue: internal stress.

Your Mindset

If you’re on a path to prevent or reverse type 2 diabetes, take back your health, and reclaim joy, vitality, and plenty, congrats. It’s no small feat; I know because I’ve done it 2x. The condition reappeared a few years after I reversed it (yes, I got lazy with my lifestyle practices), so I reversed it again. Humbly, I am on round 3.

The key of course, is to practice. Daily, holistic lifestyle practices done consistently over time produce results. Success is cumulative.

If you think you’ve cured Diabetes Type II because you’ve reversed it, think again; it’s likely not the case. This is a long-term game, so buckle up, have a plan, and take small, incremental steps to develop your lifestyle practices. Reach out for support, grab a buddy, do your research, and commit yourself fully to the projectthe project of your life. I welcome your thoughts, questions, and comments. Peaceful healing.
